More fun

Sample 4

Just a small sample tonight-I was thinking about using the complimentary colours on the flowers to add interest. I will have to wait until it's dry before I can finish the cutting away.Kezzy had a fantastic time today, she was somewhere in Cambridge and got to steer the plane herself!! She wants to do acrobatic flying next!!!
Last month, when I didn't have much on, I signed up for a 6 week on-line art course with Amelia. One of the things I need to do this week is find all the materials I will require, (there is a fairly long list) ready to start next Monday;0)

A sunny Sunday means.....

I forgot to post this picture of the book I got yesterday at The Regional days sales table. I love handmade books and have made a few over the last couple of years, but I want to make more, so hopefully I shall be able to with the help of this book. I have been promising myself a day in the garden all week, but before going out, I cut out my 'Flower Power' sample. I decided to machine stitch the word- a big mistake. Its a good job its only a sample! I shall start sample number 4 later on.

I have been very busy in the garden, cleaning the greenhouse and getting some seeds going. I love perennials so I have sown two types of Delphiniums, Canterbury Bells and Hollyhocks. I have also sown some Sunflowers for the birds to feed on in the Autumn and Morning Glory, their flowers are such a wonderful shade of blue! Mum bought me some white Lily bulbs, (my most favourite flower) the other week, so I have also planted them, this one is called Eyeliner as it has a black line around the edge of the petals.

Kezzy has been out with the ATC's today, flying. We are waiting for the phone call to pick her up and our evening meal is going to be rather overcooked if she is much longer!!

Regional Day

Nickie picked me up bright and early for her talk at Marks Tey. Nickie set up her lap top and projector while I got on with the job of hanging some of the work on quilt frames.

Setting up went smoothly and we had a chance to have a quick chat to some of the many friends we have made since we started our journey into textiles.

Nickie's talk went well and some of my work was included as well. You can see the quilt I made to celebrate Ashleigh's life in the photo above. Lunch was provided for us, and for dessert, these delicious cakes!! As the weather was so good we were able to eat 'al fresco.'

After lunch, Lynne Edwards gave a very entertaining talk on her collection of textile art that she has collected over the years- lots of lovely work to drool over.

Then guess what? Yet more cake, before we made our way home. We had such a lovely day.

I have managed to finish machine stitching flower sample number 3 and washed out the Romeo. When it is dry, I will start cutting it out, in the meantime, its back to the KISS challenge.

Kezzy's op to have three teeth removed, went well, her mouth is a bit sore and her face is slightly swollen- to be expected really. The staff were very good, nothing was too much trouble.
I was able to spend my time at the hospital doing a bit of hand stitching. I am taking part in the KISS challenge organised by Dijanne, just hope that I get it finished in time, as due to a misunderstanding, I hadn't realised it had actually started. It needs to be finished by the end of the month!!!!!!!!!!
Tomorrow I am out with Nickie, she is giving a talk at the Quilters Area Day at Marks Tey.
I hope to do some work on the flower power panel tomorrow night all being well.

A sign that the weather is getting better- a hot air balloon was up this afternoon.


I have started another sample, the machine stitched beautifully tonight, not that I have done very much. I bought some size 60 and 70 machine needles today at Hobbycraft and that seems to have worked-fingers crossed.

We have a very early start tomorrow, (that why I have stopped sewing!) Kezzy is going into hospital for the day, to have three teeth taken out under general anesthetic. We have to be at Broomfield by 7.30a.m. Kezzy is going to struggle to be up and ready to leave by 6.45 as she goes v e r y s l o w l y in the morning!!!!

Yesterday

My Internet was playing up yesterday so I was unable to post the two experiments I did yesterday. For FET, I have to make a wall hanging at least 60cms long, no burning or melting
;0 (. I want to make my panel in sheers and as I am doing the 60's/70's it has to be flower power. Not only was the Internet playing up, so was the tension on my machine. I think Nickie jinxed it, as I had told her my machine did not need servicing it was running well. Famous last words! The above sample is on a sheer background, the sample below is on net. I prefer this as it does not mute the colours when viewed from the back. My idea is that the flowers will change colour as it progresses up the hanging and incorporate some words as well. My next sample will be a word with flowers to see how big to do the words so as not to overpower the hanging.

I drew my flowers onto Romeo but then had to go to Craft Arena to get more. Denise was teaching two young ladies how to use the swing machine. I got talking to them, asking about their textile experiences. One young girl replied that she hadn't done any sewing and the only sewing that she had seen done, was on Coronation Street!

My Grandson, Josh, is off to the hospital today to see what the problem is regarding his eyes. I have now got to take Kezzy to Basildon to get her some new shoes and then she will meet up with her friend while I do the weekly food shop-deep joy!!

This 'n' that

Hasn't it been a great day, the sun was so warm I had windows open and washing on the line;0).
Sorry to be a bore, but, I just had to post this photo of Kezzy taken last week while on her course, she is in the second row, far right- she cant wait to go back again next year.

These are the bargains I got at Hobbycraft the other day, the big tub of foam letters was 24p, and the other embellishments were 75p, not sure what I am going to use them for yet, but couldn't resist them.
I had a lovely time with my mother, she spoilt me by making me a Simnel cake- I just love marzipan! It was so good, that I have got the recipe so I can make another one at the weekend.

Today, I had to take Kezzy to Chelmsford so that she could meet up with a friend, so I had a couple of hours to kill. I managed to find these sheers, so no excuse not to start trying to create the design for my wall hanging.
Debbie popped round just before I left for Chelmsford to bring me my RRC fabric that she has created. I have to quilt it by the end of this month. Not sure what I am going to do yet- I will have to think about it!

I just wanted to thank everyone who left me a message or emailed me to wish me better when I was ill. I am now fully fit;0)thank goodness, I don't do ill!!!
Tonight my son Rhodri, has gone night fishing in all that cold and rain, he must be absolutely bonkers.
We are off to my mothers in Buckingham tomorrow for the Easter break, I wont be blogging as I don't have Internet access. I'll be back on-line Monday night and I will show you the bargains I found today in Hobbycraft.
