Rabbit, rabbit!!

On the drive home from Cottenham, Nickie and I were having a long discussion about our Regional Day and more specifically, our Sales Table.  The upshot of that discussion is,  we have got to make a book by Wednesday night's Committee meeting.  I am going to sit very quietly next time!!!
Had lots of fun splashing Brusho onto some paper ala Francis Pickering.  I now need to start planning the cover.

Embroiderers' Guild

I have to confess that I was not really looking forward to going to the meeting at Histon today.  My weekends have been so busy lately, I thought I would rather have stayed at home.
I am so glad that I went! After a bleak couple of years, Terry Murphy the new CEO, has been working for the last 5 months to try and sort out the Guild and it was in dire need of that!  He gave a very good power point presentation on the Guilds future and I for one, have come away feeling very positive about the changes.
Over afternoon tea we got a chance to talk to members from other Branches, I met the gentleman secreatry from Miton Keynes, Jamie, and also a member from Colchester who had emailed me about Regional Day.  Lovely to be able to put a face to her name now.  Looking forward to meeting Michele again in July at our Regional Day.

Before going to work this morning, I did manage to hang my African Talisman on my lounge wall. It fills that gap nicely.

No time to play!

Friday is not a day when I get much done creatively, by the time I finish work, refill the fridge and larder, cook the evening meal and clear away, I normally have about an hour to play.  Tonight, no such luck.  Tomorrow morning Nickie and I are back up the M11 to Cambridge for an Embroiderer's Guild Meeting. To that end, I have spent this evening's free time getting all the paperwork together.

 I had a wonderful surprise when I got home from work tonight-the postman had bought my ALQS5.  As soon as I unwrapped it I knew who had made my quilt-Lyda Monk :0)  I was so excited that I yahooed and danced around the kitchen.  Kezzy's boyfriend looked quite shocked and said 'I have never seen anyone get THAT excited over a piece of needlework!'  Rhodri,(son) who was upstairs, also came to see what all the fuss was about.

Lynda also very kindly included some of her postcards, using a new technique and she will be teaching it at her next workshop that she is doing for our EG in May.  Guess what???  I booked a place on that course at the last meeting- cant wait!!!

Tea break project.

My hand sewing I have been doing in my breaks at school, has been on this African charm.  I got the pattern a couple of years ago, but it was only when I came across it recently, that I decided that it was an ideal small project to stitch.  Apart from using the  pattern shape I have done my own thing.  The face is made with Delight, a soft, air drying modeling compound. I just knew that raffia would come in handy one day!
So I now have two sewing machines set up in my playroom.  One to work on Che, the other to make something I can hand stitch at work-something to show soon I hope if it works out.

Thinking ahead.

I just need to play with some paints and get messy this morning before work. So, although this months journal page has only just started, I have been thinking about what I would do for April.  Next month I will have been married 11 years, so googled it to find out what it represented- it's steel.   In 2000, the colours for the Millennium was silver and lilac, so I have painted my pages silver and will cut the journal squares from the above paper that has been painted, sprayed and stamped.  I have now got plenty of time to think how I will embellish the pages.

1st March- St. David's Day.

After the workshop I did with Marion Murphy, I knew that the idea could be adapted by Kezzy for her art homework.  She was not very interested.  So, having a yearn to draw some Zentangles, I had a play.

 

 I used  permanent ink pens to draw the Zentangles, so that the ink did not run when I washed over the drawing with Brusho.  I now need to access the scanner and printer, so this will be put aside for a few days.

 A friend of the family has been out East visiting her family, and she kindly bought back some newspapers for us.

As part of Kezzy's homework, she had to look at Chinese art tigers, this led her to Chinese  paper cutting.  Having found a design and spent hours and hours cutting it out with a scalpel and very small scissors, it was spray mounted on to tissue paper and then onto the Chinese newspaper.

 My first hubby was Welsh, and March 1st meant cooking a batch of Welsh cakes. Not having the time after work to make them, I made Pikeletts instead using his mother's recipe.( another Welsh recipe his mother would make for us when we went to stay with her in Tongwynlais)

They went down very well.  If you fancy making a batch the recipe is as follows ( a request at the weekend for me to include my recipes)
Pikeletts
8oz SR flour
2oz butter/marg
2oz sugar
Rub the three ingredients together.  Beat together 2 eggs and add to dry mixture with enough milk to give a thick dropping consistency. Mix a good half teaspoon of bicarb with a drop of warm water and add to mixture. Cook on plank (griddle)  as for drop scones.  Enjoy!!!
